Bouquets/ 2015 - Ongoing

Bouquets are a series of site-specific, time-based installations inspired by the Appalachian craft commonly referred to as 'coal or depression flowers'. The craft was historically practiced by the wives and children of coalminers during the late 1800s as a form of decoration, entertainment and a way of marking the passing of time.

In each installation, the Bouquet's crystalline blooms materialize and decay over the duration of the exhibition. Blooming marks the opening of each exhibition and the work slowly grows, decays and falls into accumulative piles until the exhibition’s conclusion. The work reflects human cycles of birth, death and regeneration.
